Different from beauty salons, health spas perceive Foot Treatment as a holistic foot care rather than merely a beauty treatment, as proper foot care can have a positive impact on the rest of the body too. Remember that your feet work hard all day, every day, carrying the weight of your body around from walking to doing high impact aerobic exercise.
Here is a simple foot treatment routine that can easily be done in the comfort of your own living room...
It's good to do Foot Treatment in the early evening because it makes you sit down and relax after a hard day's work. You will need to have ready a plastic bowl for the foot bath, some towels to dry the feet, some kitchen paper to rest them on while you apply the foot scrub and to wipe away any excess, and a sponge to remove the masque. Don't forget to remove your toe-nail varnish beforehand.
Leave the feet to soak for 15 minutes in comfortably warm water prepared with sea salts for wonderful therapeutic relaxing and softening effects (try HomeSpaWorks Relaxing Bath Salt). If you have very dry heels, you could rub a pumice stone gently on the hard skin to smooth it.
Alternatively, you can use the hot n cold treatment, which improves the blood circulation of your feet. First dip your feet in comfortably hot water and then dip them in cold water. Do this for 20 minutes.
In a small bowl, mix 6 tbsp extra virgin olive oil with 2 tsp fine sea salt - as exfoliant - and stir. Add 20 drops lavender essential oil for fragrance, and stir (or you can try HomeSpaWorks Lavender Body Scrub instead). Rest your feet on kitchen paper on top of towel. Then carefully apply the scrub to one foot at a time, using small circular movements all over the foot, concentrating especially on any dry areas. The olive oil is supremely nourishing and the lavender oil is also skin replenishing and soothing. When you have done this for about 10 minutes, use the kitchen paper to wipe off any excess scrub. The feet should already feel much silkier and ready for the foot mask.
Apply mineral clay masque (try HomeSpaWorks Body Masque) to one foot at a time - and to the entire leg if you like, except the sole area. The clay masque will remove impurities from the skin, leaving it ready to absorb the oil later. After leaving it on for 10 minutes, remove masque from legs and feet using a damp sponge (do this with your feet back in the bowl). Take your feet out of the bath and dry well.
Have your favourite massage oil ready (try HomeSpaWorks Stress Relief Massage Oil) and apply it all over the surface of the foot - and to the entire leg if you like. Just stroke the foot all over with both hands, really nurturing and nourishing all the surfaces, including the toes. Also move up the leg and massage the whole area gently and let the oil absorbs well. Then work on the other foot and leg. Foot massage improves circulation, helps stiffness and nourishes the skin.
Finally, wrap your feet warm in a towel and have a rest.
