Facial Treatment

While beauty salons compete on the high tech (computer aided) facial treatments, health spas usually focus more on using natural products and taking more time doing the facial massage.

Here is a simple facial care routine that can easily be done in the comfort of your own living room...

Get Ready

It's good to do Facial Care at night or at weekends because you won't need to reapply make-up afterwards, letting your skin breathe and have a proper rest from chemicals contained in cosmetics. You will need to have ready a plastic bowl for facial steam, some towels to drape over your head and dry the face, a hair-band to pull your hair away from the face, and a face cloth (or a hand mitt) to scrub your face.

Cleanse & Tone

Make sure your hair is tied back off your face (or pulled away using a hair-band) before you start the routine. Start with using your favourite cleanser & toner to perfectly cleanse your face from make-up and/or dirt.

Steam & Scrub

Pour near-boiling water into a bowl until it is half full. Steep a bag of bath-tea (try HomeSpaWorks Bath Tea) in the water and let it infuse for a minute, then lean over the bowl with your face in the steam and your head under a towel. Steam opens up your pores and eliminates impurities. Stay under the towel for about 10 minutes. After that, carefully pick up the wet bath-tea bag and then use it to gently scrub your face, using small circular movements all over, concentrating especially on the t-zone. If you're not using bath-tea, just use a face cloth (or a hand mitt) to scrub your face. Pat your face using the towel but don't dry it completely. The face should now feel cleaner, slightly damp, and ready for the face mask.

Facial Mask

Apply mineral clay masque (try HomeSpaWorks Rose Face Masque) using a brush or your fingers to the entire face, avoiding the delicate eye area. The clay masque will remove impurities from the skin, leaving it ready to absorb the moisturiser/oil later. After leaving it on for 10 minutes, remove the masque from the face using warm water. Pat your face dry.

Moisturise & Massage

Have your favourite moisturiser or face oil ready (try HomeSpaWorks Rosehip Face Oil). Starting in the middle of your forehead, apply the oil to the skin in tiny circular movements, down to your eyebrows, your temples, across your nose and cheeks and your chin, avoiding the delicate eye area. Using the palm of your hands, sweep up the neck towards the chin in light alternating, feathery movements. Use your fingertips to tap lightly all over your face, which gently stimulates the skin. Gently stroke all over the face in soft circular movements to finish, feeling the softness of your skin. Facial massage improves circulation and helps stimulate and nourish the skin.
